Personal Life
Oscar Chang is a Malaysian born half Chinese, half Filipino. He lives in Kuching which is the capital of the Sarawak
state. Being brought up by a Chinese father and a Filipino mother, Oscar and his other two siblings were able to pick up
English because their parents want to mutually respect each other by using the language that both individual can
understand. Besides English, Oscar is able to communicate in the Malay language and in Mandarin due to the education
system in Malaysia. Most schools in Malaysia will require students to learn English and the Malay language. There are
classes that offers students to learn other languages, most commonly the Chinese language but those classes are optional.
At the age of 12, he started to pick up tennis and continue to play even after high school. He managed
to win some minor tournaments in his tennis career, represented his state for 3 years and represented Malaysia to compete
in the Junior Davis Cup. Unfortunately, the 2008 Junior Davis Cup team did not make it to the main event but they managed
to hold the 13th place out of 16 teams. After high school, he further his tennis carrier as a young coach and attended the
Professional Tennis Registry seminar to gain more experience in coaching. After a year, he wanted to further
his tennis carrier and education by attending a college in the land of opportunities, the United States. He then accepted the offer
to attend at Graceland University for both education and tennis. He is currently at his sophomore year and a Computer Science and
Information Technology major.
Homeland
Malaysia is located in the South-east Asia, one of the most diverse countries on Earth and consists of 13 states and 3 federal territories.
Sarawak is one of the 13 states in Malaysia and known as the Land Of the Hornbills.
Most cities and towns in Sarawak were named after an animal. Oscar's home town is Kuching, which means
cat in the Malay Language. Kuching is known for it's food, quite a number of cat
statues in the city, wildlife adventures, national parks and other tourist spots that even Oscar yet to experience.
According to Oscar, the two popular tourist spots are the Cultural Village and the Bako National Park. The Cultural Village
is a village where all different cultures and races stay together in a community. They will do their very best to keep their
traditions and the way of living in the old days. The community comprises of local Sarawakian group namely the
Iban, Bidayuh, Orang Ulu, Melanau,
and other minor tribes plus the Malays, Chinese and Indians.
The Bako National Park is for anybody that wants to witness the natural beauty of Sarawak. There will be tour guides for jungle trekking,
boat rides to visit the Bako Village, and get to see the spectacular nature of the rainforest.
